St Laurence Church, Chorley

Title: ‘The Light of the World’

Artist: Abbott & Co (Lancaster)

Date window was originally made and installed: Circa 1900

Date of restoration: 2017

Size: 490mm wide x 1085mm

Description: This window is based on a famous Victorian oil painting by William Holman Hunt representing Jesus preparing to knock on an overgrown and long unopened door. The painting was inspired by a passage from Revelation 3:20: “Behold I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him…”

The original window was extensively damaged and needed completely restoring. The glass was cut and hand painted to replicate and stay true to the original window. We managed to save around 20% of the glass from the original.
