Project to repair extensive vandalism to the stained glass windows on the entire south elevation
2007
These windows in the high Victorian style had sustained widespread damage, with important pieces such as heads being targeted. A number of pieces needed replacing. The overall condition of the windows, especially the lead-work, was very good however and it was possible to effect the repairs 'in situ'.
Damaged pieces were consolidated and carefully removed, a replica painted at the studio, then fitted back into the original lead with minimal interference or stress to the fabric of the window. The original pieces were photographed and archived. After restoration the windows were also fitted with polycarbonate protection.
This project is an example of successful restoration, allowing the original scheme to be viewed as it was intended and the windows preserved and documented for the future.
