Altham, St James' Church
Title: 'Quincentenary Window 1512-2012'
Date: 2013
Design by: Deb Lowe
Size of each light: 450mm wide x 1200mm
Description: The window celebrates Altham's history and its church, with all three lights forming a cross. At the centre is a roundel showing an aerial view of the church and churchyard. Bulrushes at the foot of the cross symbolize the nearby river and represent salvation, faithfulness, and humility. The left light highlights Altham’s historic industries and farming, featuring a roundel with images of Moorfield Colliery and local farmland. The right light reflects modern industry, with a roundel inspired by a computer circuit board encircled by planets—referencing Altham Business Park and its space-themed names. One planet contains a diamond design marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. A flowing river motif, inspired by Norman stonework, borders each light.
