Description: St John is depicted in the iconic style, winged as a divine messenger. He stands at the banks of a river with rushes (Sweet Flag, acora calamus, traditionally used in rushbearing ceremonies) at his feet. There is a shell in the water, a reference to baptism and a symbol for St John the Baptist. Above his head is a medallion with the lamb and flag symbol and St John's words 'Ecce Agnus Dei' (Behold the lamb of God).
