Title: 'St Hilda of Whitby'
Date: 2014
Design by: Deb Lowe
Size: 600mm wide x 2050mm
Description: The design depicts St Hilda holding a replica of the abbey she founded at Whitby. The abbey became a great religious centre from the 1500's that grew from her legacy. She stands on a beach of pebbles with the sea in the background. Ammonite fossils can be seen at her feet. These are associated with St Hilda in legend and appear in the town's 'Coat of Arms'. Also shown is a white shell, the symbol of a pilgrim.
