Title: 'The River Window'
Date: 2018
Design by: Deb Lowe
Size: 1400mm wide x 26400mm including frame
Description: The ‘River’ Window celebrates the local landscape and history, complementing the church’s light, elegant 18th-century architecture. Set in summertime, it depicts creation and “life in all its abundance.”
Framed in green and gold, the scene shows the River Ribble winding past Pendle Hill. At the base, trout, chub and perch swim among bulrushes and iris, as a kingfisher rests on willow. A horse and foal graze nearby, with sheep in the fields—echoing the region’s farming and wool heritage. In the distance stands a white bull, referencing the White Bull Inn. The top arch features willow, alder, red wild roses (Lancashire’s emblem), teasel (used in weaving), and rosemary—linked to remembrance and Ribchester’s Roman past.
